Where to Get Help
This page contains links to organisations
which are non-profit-making and which offer free help to people
in the area. If you are this type of organisation and wish
to be added, please e-mail
us and we will arrange to put your details online.

Only current registers are kept at the church, all others
registers in the Coventry Diocese are held at the County Record
Office, Priory Park, Cape Road, Warwick. CV34 4JS in accordance
with the Parochial Registers and Records Measure 1978.
Since Atherstone St Mary's only became an
ecclesiastical parish in its own right from the middle of
the 19th Century, records older than the following may be
found in the records of St Peter's Church, Mancetter, which
covered the present ecclesiastical parishes of Mancetter,
Atherstone and Hartshill.
Enquiries regarding the following registers
should be made to the Archivist in charge of collections,
(Tel: 01926 410410) giving as much information as possible
about names and dates, and quoting the reference number shown
against each register. A charge will be made for searches
and copies by post. Searches in person are free, but a charge
will be made for copies. Please check opening times before
calling in person.

Situated at The Partnership Building in Coleshill Road, Atherstone

Home Safety Check Scheme
Launched in October 1999, this free service
offers a risk assessment of the home environment by our Royal
Society for the Prevention of Accidents accredited coordinator.
Any North Warwickshire resident over the age of 55 years,
or of any age if disabled, is eligible for the check. A comprehensive
inspection is carried out, including general safety, fire
safety, electrical and gas safety (visual), security, insulation
etc. Free smoke detectors can be supplied where appropriate
(courtesy of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service). The inspection
is confidential and a copy of the report is supplied to clients.
A FREE handyman service is also available for safety related
work, such as fitting grab rails, extra stair rails, bridging
steps etc. Clients are required to pay for any parts fitted
(eg metal grab rail £3.50). The scheme works in partnership
with North Warwickshire Borough Council.
Anyone wishing to arrange a free
check should contact Hugh Nethercot.
Daily Living Support Service
This service is available to anyone over
60 and provides Support Workers who can help with essential
shopping (including trips out), collecting pensions, some
housework, ironing, etc. Visits are normally of one hour duration.
All staff undergo a selection procedure, plus proper training
(eg Food Hygiene, First Aid) and visits are normally either
weekly, fortnightly or even monthly, dependant on client need.
This scheme allows up to 50 hours per annum per client. Personal
care is not included.
The service is available on a long-term basis,
or for those with a temporary need, such as after hospital
discharge, for a 6 week period.
The service is funded by Warwickshire Social
Services and costs are subsidised.
For more information, contact
Elaine McCabe.

Lifestyle
This is a new service offering a similar
range of services as Daily Living Support where clients request
a greater input (in hours) than that available under the subsidised
scheme. Support staff are trained as in the Daily Living Support
scheme and there is no restriction on the number of hours
available to each client. Costs are not subsidised and reflect
normal market rates. For more information contact Elaine McCabe
Daybreak
This long standing service provides practical
assistance and support to those caring for persons suffering
from Alzheimers Disease, or with memory problems.
There are a number of Day Care centres where
trained staff take over the care of clients, offering stimulating
activities and contact with others (or, if appropriate, one
to one contact). Transport can be provided and drinks and
lunchtime meals are also available. Currently, centres are
situated in Dordon and Water Orton (also in Bedworth, Nuneaton
and Attleborough).
Respite in the home is also offered on a
short-term basis (usually 2 hour periods).
For more information, contact Mary Willis.

Carers Short Break Service
In partnership with Warwickshire Social Services,
we provide a service to support carers throughout the area
of North Warwickshire (including Nuneaton and Bedworth).
The service is available to people aged 60+ who are frail
elderly or who have Dementia and rely on prolonged daily care
from another person. A trained member of staff will provide
regular short breaks for the carer, thus relieving them from
the caring role for agreed periods. We allocate up to 100
hours per client per financial year, which is used on a flexible
basis. The service is funded by Social Services and is free
of charge to clients.
For more details contact Gail
Brown.
