History of Atherstone

This fascinating account of Atherstone's past has been kindly provided by Judy Vero. It begins way back in 60AD and moves towards the present day, explaining events which have not only local but national importance in the way both Atherstone and England arrived at where they are today.

Atherstone Today

Many of the history in Atherstone lives on today in the attractive old buildings which are still present in the town centre. We have photographed a few for you to browse. If you have any modern photographs of places of interest, we would be very grateful if you could lend them to us for scanning and publication on this web site.

We'll start in the old Market Square with a couple more photos of St Mary's Church.

The Photo Album

Browse through the Album and take a nostalgic trip into the past of Atherstone. You will see some familiar buildings which to this day still stand. Our aim is to preserve and treasure the rich heritage of our town and to share with one and all. We hope you will enjoy looking through our town's photo album as much as we enjoyed putting them together.

Sign our Guestbook

We have given our Guestbook a new and interactive look. We hope this will encourage more people to drop us a note. Lastly we would like to thank all of you who have signed our Guestbook in the past, especially so to our overseas visitors!

Atherstone Forum

You need to register (no charge for this) to use this, but it has many features including a 'personal message' system to allow private messages to be sent to other members. This lets you send and receive messages without disclosing your e-mail address to others. You must input your e-mail address on registration, though you can choose to hide this from other members.

The message board has a few surprises and some good fun. You've nothing to lose by registering and trying it out and we guarantee that your e-mail address will not be passed on to any third party.
